How to make Vegan Milk

Vegan Milk

Ingredients:

1/2 pack of Peanuts, Almonds or Cashews

Water

Agave Sweetener

Cheese cloth or Strainer

2 pinches of salt

Prep time: 8- 12 hours

Instructions:

  1. Add a 1/2 bag of nuts into an empty container
  2. Add water until the nuts are completely covered
  3. Leave the nuts to soak overnight
  4. After the soaking time, throw out the water (do not use this water)
  5. Add strained nuts into a blender
  6. Cover the peanuts with 2 inches of water
  7. Add salt and agave nectar sweetener
  8. Blend (if the mixture is too thick add more water and blend again)
  9. Cover an empty bowl with cheese cloth or strainer
  10. Empty the content of the blender onto the cheese cloth or strainer
  11. Squeeze the milk from the blended nuts with your hand (cheese cloth) or a spoon (strainer)
  12. Empty the milk into a bottle for refrigeration
  13. Enjoy!

Why you need to start Gardening

At the tender age of 23, after playing around with the idea of Gardening, I started my own home garden in June 2017.

Yes. Gardening is not just for your 75-year-old Grandma

Having my own garden seemed like the most sensible thing to do because I buy veggies and fruits too often.

In my mind, if I take seedlings for the fruits and veggies I love and put a little time and effort into growing them, I would be more appreciative of the product and hopefully expand my garden to have my faves right at my fingertips. 

In addition, it is just cost effective,which is always welcomed in a time like this where the cost of food is ridiculous.

Also being vegan with my veg and fruit consumption doubling. Starting a garden is a wise decision.

Gardening for me is inexpensive, relaxing and fulfilling.

A lot of people do not realise how cost effective it is and that is unfortunate.

Think about it. The money spent you spend on purchasing one fully grown fruit or veg for a price, you could get multiple seedlings for the same amount of money.

Let us say in my case, I pay $10 for a bag of tomatoes. Tomato seedlings are really inexpensive. I believe I paid 50c for 1 at one point in time. 

With that $10 you could get 20 seedlings and you would never have to buy tomatoes again because you have a constant supply in your garden.

Having a garden would eventually elimate the need for you to do veggie shopping in your local supermarket.

One of the myths I heard was,

 “Gardening is too much work. I don’t have the time to take care of plants” 

I promise you. I am a full-time medical student and it is not taking many hours of my day to hose down my plants and remove a few weeds.

Gardening for me is inexpensive, relaxing and fulfilling.

 

 

So far, In my little garden I have grown Tomatoes, Corn, and Lettuce. 

I just started my herb garden and I most excited about that. I would give you guys an update in the future.

 

As of right now, I am working on making my tomato growing skills better.

Even though my tomato trees were growing and bearing, the plant itself was dying while it was bearing fruit. Weird right?

So I uprooted the old ones and starting fresh with some seedlings I got 2 weeks ago.

In addition to dealing with my tomato plants, I am trying to control the pests that are eating the leaves of my corn plants ūüė¶

Trying to stay vegan

I have been trying to go full out vegan for years now.

You know those aggressive, angry vegans on Youtube?

Well, they got me.

After watching a few of them and in addition, doing some research into the claims that they present, I realized that meat and dairy are probably not the best foods to eat. Period. The best diet for me would be plant based only, because of some of the weird experiences that I had with meat and also with me having PCOS.

So far I am loving it, I feel great. I have more energy throughout the day and I am determined to keep it up because it is an amazing feeling.

My wanting to go vegan did not end there I actually tried to Pescetariansiam firstly in an effort to ween off meat and help with me wanting to go vegan entirely.

I gave up meat for 7 months and it helped but I did STRUGGLE. A lot. Struggled so much I relapsed (Forgive me).

So today, I have been ‘kinda’ vegan for about a week.

I went like 4 days strictly vegan but due to not wanting to starve to death, I did indulge in butter and cheese because it was the only thing I have around me to eat at the moment.

I am Trini college student living on $500TT a month so the budget for more expensive vegan cheeses are practically non-existent so I have to make the decision about cutting it entirely without a replacement or dishing out a cool $50- $75 on vegan cheese.

Either way, my wallet is getting hurt.

Working on it though.

So far I am loving it, I feel great. I have more energy throughout the day and I am determined to keep it up because it is an amazing feeling.
